Are the British falling out with tea?
Britain is renowned for its 'tea drinking' and is a nation full of tea lovers, so much so we consume 165 million cups every single day. However, over recent years the sales of 'out-of-home' tea have fallen dramatically against coffee, with reasons given 'it's not done to my liking' or 'it's not good value for money'. The UK coffee sales were valued at £8.9bn last year, just £308m came from tea, according to Big Hospitality.
Opportunity for tea growth
According to Allerga there is strong opportunity for growth with the emphasis being on more healthier options. Restaurants are being urged to re-define the consumer experience of 'out-of-home' tea. Innovation will be driven by those prepared to 'think outside the box' and use tea in ways that haven't been used before.
